Great Websites

I wanted to share a few great websites for moms and girls.

It is so refreshing to find a few women in the Christian realm who still care about what a woman defined by Biblical standards should be. I have found these sites very helpful:

The first is Girls Gone Wise. This is Mary Kassian's website. She has written several books and Bible Studies, including Conversation Peace. She also serves as a professor at Southern Baptist Seminary.

The second is Secret Keeper Girl.

Finally, Set Apart Girl.

Hopefully you will find these useful as well.

Thoughts on Cheerleading

D., my oldest, has expressed an interest in Cheerleading. I was happy she is interested in trying something new she hasn't before.

We are a part of a homeschool group that is a ministry of a large SBC church in our area. We originally joined this year because they offer Cheerleading. So on Thursday we went to our first practice and D. loved it.

I admit that I had been away from the whole cheerleading scene for so long, I honestly forgot about some of the less that appropriate moves or clothing or dances. I was so pleased that our cheerleading coach has made a rule of no inappropriate dance or cheers. This is a very modest cheerleading group. There will be no short cheerleading dress, but rather shorts and a t-shirt.

Then the coach talked with the girls (and a few boys including my Kindergartener son) about how they are there to encourage the team. Even when the score is 0-42, they are still to be the ones cheering the team on. She told them how this is Biblical to uplift and encourage one another.

I really was blessed by the whole experience. I like how the group isn't making the cheerleading team pretty girls who are there to show off, but to encourage and uplift our team in a modest and appropriate way.

I am excited for D. to be a part of this and I now have a new outlook on something I thought once was sortof a useless sport.

Wall Builders

Here is an amazing website that goes into incredible detail about our country's heritage, the founding fathers and the church. It is called Wallbuilders.

I first saw the website on Huckabee and was intrigued by the history.

In our new unit study, we are begining the Reformation period. In our next unit, we will dig more into the founding days of the USA. I am really excited to teach my children how the direct response of the Reformation was founding our new land! In fact, many have called John Calvin one of the "fathers" of our country.

It saddens me the direction we take today as a country and the hostility towards Christianity. Still, I know God is sovereign in all things - including what is happening today. He is still in control! In the end, God will not be mocked and His glory will be made known. I take great hope in that!

Homeschool Moments

I love it when the kids "get it."

D. is working on a geography project for our Homeschool Group's geography fair. She chose Spain as her country. She really has undertaken the whole idea of researching herself. And she is doing a wonderful job - for a third grader.

So this morning, she told me:

"Mom, I started to write so stuff about Spain but the book said people have lived in Spain for over 100,000 years. I know that isn't right."

She brought me the book and sure enough, it said people lived in Spain 100,000 years.

We are working through Apologia's Exploring Creation through Astronomy. This book has been really good at pointing out the flaws of "old earth" theory. Just the other day we discussed how old earth people have a very hard time explaining the smooth side of the moon. If it was millions of years old, it would have craters all over it. This is just one of many things we have discussed in relation to the age of the earth.

I am Praising God that she gets it. I am so thankful to Homeschool. Helping to frame a Biblical worldview is the most important thing I can think of in child raising. I so want each of my kids to have that Biblical worldview...and then be able to defend it. I am sure, of course unless they all three get to go to Southern Seminary, college will be a real challenge of faith. I want them to be ready!

Prayers for the Klicka Family

Please pray for Chris Klicka and his family. Chris has served HSLDA for over 24 years and appears to be in the last stage of this life.

Of course, prayers for healing, if it be God's will. If not, prayers for his family as they deal with his increasingly progressing illness. Pray for the Lord's Comfort and Peace.

What Women Want

I was listening to Albert Mohler's radio program from Friday, September 25th. He was dealing with the subject of what women want. This conversation was sparked from an article about women not being happy, especially as they get older. Particularly not happy as men. He addressed how this all has to do with the failed and empty promises of the Feminist movement.

Most women want to be happy. Sadly, many do not know how.

How can we be happy? I loved the quote that he said because it is so true. We find true happiness when we see God's glory. God's glory is most easily displayed when we are in the center of God's will.

Are you a mom? Do you work outside of the home? Are you truly happy?

Here is the suggestion I gave a friend who is contemplating returning full time to the work force. Do an in-depth study of what the Bible says we should be as a mom and a wife. Do word studies. Search out God's plan in the Bible. Then see if you can fulfill God's plan by working full time outside of the home.

God will show you the answer.
